The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) classifies individuals into one of 16 personality types based on four dichotomies or pairs of preferences. Here are the four dichotomies, and the possible preferences for each:

1. **Extraversion (E) vs. Introversion (I):**
   - Extraversion: Prefers to focus on the outer world, is energized by external stimuli, and enjoys interacting with people.
   - Introversion: Prefers to focus on the inner world, is energized by quiet and reflective time, and may find social interactions draining.

2. **Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N):**
   - Sensing: Prefers to focus on facts, details, and the present moment, and tends to be practical and realistic.
   - Intuition: Prefers to focus on possibilities, patterns, and future implications, and tends to be imaginative and open-minded.

3. **Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F):**
   - Thinking: Makes decisions based on logic and objective analysis, and values fairness and consistency.
   - Feeling: Makes decisions based on personal values and the impact on people, and values harmony and empathy.

4. **Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P):**
   - Judging: Prefers a planned and organized approach, likes closure, and enjoys making decisions.
   - Perceiving: Prefers a flexible and spontaneous approach, likes to keep options open, and enjoys exploring possibilities.

Combining these preferences creates the 16 personality types, such as INFJ, INFP, ENFP, ISTJ, etc. Each type has its own unique set of characteristics and tendencies. It's important to note that the MBTI is a tool for self-awareness and understanding, but it is not a definitive measure of personality and should be interpreted with a degree of flexibility.
